New T-Mobile Wi-Fi
Sunday, November 4th, 2007Everyone’s talking about the new T-Mobile Hotspot @ Home service. You keep your same voice plan and get improved call quality when you’re within range of Wi-Fi internet. To get the new service, all you need is one of T-Mobile’s Hotspot@Home Wi-Fi capable phones.
T-Mobile’s marketing of the service is a little weak though. People think that you are required to get T-Mobile’s unlimited Hotspot@Home service plan for $19.99 per month. Originally, the service was $9.99 for unlimited minutes for a single plan and $19.99 for a family plan. Apparently, this just went up to $19.99 for a single plan and $29.99 for a family plan. You really only need the unlimited service added on to your plan if you are used to going over your plan and you need the additional minutes.
Otherwise, the best thing about this service is that most people already have Wi-Fi in their homes. T-Mobile customers stay with T-Mobile for two main reasons. (1) The prices are good, and (2) their customer service makes you feel like a human being. The one downside to T-Mobile has been that their cell service is weak due to having less cell towers than their competitors. And that’s where the new Hotspot @ Home service comes in.
While all the other wireless companies were busy buying up cell towers, T-Mobile was busy building up its Wi-Fi Hotspots. They’re available at all Star Bucks and various other T-Mobile Hotspot locations. With the new voice Wi-Fi capable phones anytime you are near Wi-Fi, whether its a T-Mobile Hotspot or just your friends Wi-Fi enabled apartment, your phone switches from cell to Wi-Fi, meaning solid service. If you have the Hotspot @ Home service, you will then be using your unlimited Wi-Fi minutes and conserving your cell minutes for when you are not within range of Wi-Fi.
So maybe they’re not explaining it right, but if you look closely, T-Mobile Wi-Fi phones are actually gonna save you some money. The small type is actually in our favor for once…
